What it is:
Peoples Gas Small and Midsize Business Program provides free energy assessments — with online and in-person options. The assessment includes a free custom report that outlines energy efficiency recommendations and available rebates to help reduce your operating costs.
Businesses and public facilities can receive free energy assessments. Online or in-person, the assessments provide a free custom report of energy efficiency recommendations and available rebates to help reduce operating costs.
Energy assessment options:
- Online assessment: Complete a 5-minute survey, answering questions about your business or facility to identify areas for potential savings.
- In-person assessment: An energy advisor will walk through your facility to evaluate your equipment and energy use, and identify low and no-cost opportunities for savings.
Either assessment provides a free custom report that includes:
- Current energy use summary
- Tips and ways to lower your energy costs
- Recommended energy-saving upgrades
- Cost-benefit analysis for upgrades
- Applicable energy efficiency rebates

What it is:
Small and midsize businesses, commercial, industrial and public sector facilities can receive energy efficiency rebates, resources, expert support and project management. No matter your type of operation, the Peoples Gas team can help reduce your energy costs and identify custom energy-saving opportunities.
Expert support options:
- Energy advisor visit: An energy advisor will walk through your facility to evaluate your equipment and energy use, and identify savings opportunities.
- Engineering services: A gas optimization study can help you identify and implement no-cost and low-cost upgrades to increase system performance and save energy.
Qualifying projects can get rebates, such as:
- Furnace and boiler repair and replacement
- Steam pipe insulation
- Steam trap repair and replacement
- Boiler and rooftop unit tune-ups
- Boiler reset controls
- Demand-controlled ventilation kitchen hoods
- Commercial kitchen equipment
Other energy-saving improvements may qualify for custom rebates, such as:
- Boiler combustion management upgrades
- Boiler/stack economizers
- HVAC optimization
- Destratification fans
- Demand-controlled ventilation
- Heat recovery

Multifamily program

What it is:
An experienced energy adviser will perform a free energy assessment of your property and install energy-saving products in tenant units and common areas. The energy adviser will assess your property’s common areas, central plant, building shell and in-unit sampling.
Property managers receive a customized report summarizing free energy-saving installation options, upgrades, rebates and a cost-benefit analysis for future improvements. We offer the program in partnership with ComEd.
Program features
- Free energy assessments We work with ComEd to help owners and tenants save energy, reduce utility costs and improve tenant retention by installing energy-efficient products such as showerheads, faucet aerators, programmable thermostats and pipe insulation – in each unit at no cost.
- Discount services and project rebates Get discounted energy-saving services from participating contractors and rebates for upgrades.
Building owners and managers whose buildings are designated as income eligible may qualify for comprehensive energy efficiency retrofits in common areas and tenant spaces. Improvements may include free weatherization, ENERGY STAR® certified LEDs, programmable thermostats, advanced power strips, boiler tune-ups and more.
